How it works

Three steps from episode to study session

No subtitles needed. Koemoji listens to the Japanese and writes it out for you.

  1. 1

    Add an episode

Pick a Japanese podcast episode, or a video or audio file from your iPhone.

  2. 2

    Koemoji writes the Japanese

AI transcribes the speech, puts a reading over each word and adds a translation.

  3. 3

    Study line by line

Follow along as it plays, repeat a sentence, slow it down, and shadow it.

Features

Built for listening, not just reading

Everything in Koemoji is about hearing real Japanese and understanding it, one sentence at a time.

  • A reading over every word

Romaji or hiragana above each word, so you can follow the sound before you can read the kanji.

  • Translation in your language

Pick one of 30 languages. Every line gets a translation underneath, not just the hard ones.

  • Repeat one sentence

Previous, Repeat and Next move sentence by sentence. Tap any line to play from there.

  • Sentence mode for shadowing

One line at a time, with the player across the whole width. Listen, repeat, move on.

  • Slow it down

Playback from 0.5× to 2×, so fast speech becomes something you can actually hear.

  • Podcasts, Photos or Files

Pick any Japanese podcast episode, or bring your own recording, MP3, M4A, MP4 or MOV. No transcript needed.

A look inside

FAQ

Questions, answered

Is Koemoji free?
Yes. Koemoji is free to download and use, with no account needed. A paid plan with more AI transcription minutes is coming later.
What can I study?
Any Japanese podcast episode, plus videos and audio from your own iPhone: a recording from Photos, or an MP3, M4A, MP4 or MOV from Files. The episode does not need a transcript, because Koemoji writes one itself.
What does the transcript show?
Each Japanese line with a reading over every word (romaji or hiragana), and a translation in your language underneath. The current line follows the audio as it plays, and a tap on any line plays from there.
Which languages are the translations in?
You choose one of 30 languages when you first open the app, including English, Chinese, Indonesian, Korean, Thai, Vietnamese, Spanish, French, Portuguese and German. You can change it any time in Settings.
Does it work for complete beginners?
Yes. The reading over every word means you can follow along before you can read kanji, and sentence mode lets you listen to one line at a time, repeat it, and slow it down to half speed.
Is there an Android version?
Not yet. Koemoji is for iPhone first (iOS 26 or later). Follow us on Instagram to hear when more platforms arrive.

Koemoji is coming to the App Store.
